The Science Behind It
Evidence-Based Results in Attention, Memory, and Learning Performance
At first glance, Brain Integration might seem simple. But behind every session is a process rooted in neuroscience, acupressure research, and clinical testing.
The Brain Integration Technique (BIT), developed by Susan McCrossin, is designed to improve how the brain functions by rebalancing communication across its different regions. The technique uses a non-invasive acupressure protocol in combination with muscle testing (also known as applied kinesiology) to identify areas of neurological disconnection. Once these imbalances are discovered, specific acupoints are stimulated to restore synchronized function.
Why Brain Communication Matters
The human brain relies on precise timing and coordination between its many regions to process information effectively. When this timing is disrupted (whether due to trauma, chronic stress, or developmental delays), cognitive performance suffers. This disconnection can show up as attention deficits, learning disabilities, poor memory, or emotional instability.
Scientific research suggests that when areas of the brain fail to communicate efficiently, the entire system becomes less effective. BIT addresses this by targeting the neurological “timing mechanisms” that help the brain stay organized and responsive.
Backed by Research
In one foundational study using a technique called Steady-State Visual Evoked Potential (SSVEP), researchers measured brain activity before and after BIT treatment. Prior to treatment, subjects displayed increased brain activity in the occipito-parietal lobes—areas typically associated with passive processing and visual input. After BIT, that activity shifted to the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for attention, planning, and decision-making. This change in cortical activity correlated with improved cognitive performance, particularly in areas like memory and comprehension.
The same study showed that:
- Digit span scores improved significantly, increasing from an average of 5 digits forwards to 7.4, and from 3.8 digits backwards to 6.8. This indicates stronger short-term and working memory.
- Reading comprehension jumped from an average of 35% to 100%, showing substantial gains in the ability to process and recall written information.
- Frontal brain activity increased, indicating improved decision-making and attentional control.
Another controlled trial further confirmed these results. Children who received BIT treatment showed statistically significant improvements in fluid intelligence, working memory, and reading comprehension, compared to those who did not receive treatment.
How Acupressure Plays a Role
Acupressure points used in BIT are not arbitrary. They align with traditional Chinese medicine meridians, which have been validated by modern electrical mapping techniques. Studies show that stimulating these specific points can alter neurological responses, including increased activation in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus—regions critical for memory, learning, and attention regulation.
When the practitioner stimulates these points in a specific sequence, the body’s electrical system responds by “resetting” disrupted communication pathways. This physical recalibration helps the brain process information more effectively—without medication or cognitive retraining exercises.
What This Means for You or Your Child
The benefits of BIT are not theoretical. They’ve been measured, observed, and most importantly, experienced by hundreds of clients who felt stuck before they found this work. Whether someone is dealing with ADHD, dyslexia, brain fog, or emotional overwhelm, BIT offers a practical method for restoring function—often in ways that other approaches have missed.
This technique provides the brain the right conditions to organize itself again, which in turn supports clearer thinking, better focus, and more ease in everyday life.
